On the reverse is a bold winged caduceus. While we associate this symbol with medicine (the traditional symbol for medicine is the Rod of Asclepius, which has only one snake and no wings), in Ancient Rome, the caduceus was the staff of the messenger god, Mercury. It was used to symbolize diplomacy and peace.
