The Shipwreck Concepcion 1641

After being caught in a hurricane off Florida, the Spanish treasure laden galleon Nuestra Señora de la Concepcion drifted for weeks and went aground on October 31, 1641 amidst the reefs north of Hispañola, the present day Dominican Republic. For hundreds of years, treasure seekers hunted for her vast silver cargo, but it wasn’t until 1979 that the jealous sea began to give up Concepcion’s “pieces of eight.”
