shipwreck silver Pieces of Eight and gold Doubloons of Cadiz Bay
The Treasures of Cadiz Bay

For nearly 300 years Cadiz Bay was a major port for Spanish treasure galleons departing and returning from the New World - hundreds sank in the bay over these centuries. In the 1960s the Spanish government began dredging the port to make way for modern shipping. This dredging disturbed many of the historic shipwrecks, and decades ago their precious cargoes began washing up on the beaches.
