This Pendant is HALF DOLLAR sized… Pendant Size Including Bezel: 1 1/8" Across, 1 5/8" Tall - the Width of a 50 cent piece
When we think of the treasure coins of pirate legend and lore, the first thing that comes to mind is the gold “doubloon.” Doubloons, or Escudos (which means shield in Spanish), are the gold coins to satiate desire. From kings and queens, to merchants, adventurers, and yes, pirates and privateers, the gold Escudos, along with their counter parts, silver “Pieces of 8,” fueled the world economy for some 300 years.
Next time you read about the great pirates of long ago; Henry Morgan, Edward Teach (Blackbeard), John Rackham (Calico Jack), Mary Read, Anne Bonny and many others, these were the coins that drove their raiding and pillaging of land and sea! Even the great, and often maligned, “pirate hunter” Captain William Kidd used these coins to purchase rum and wine for his crew.
Crudely minted "cob" coins - short for cabo de barra, or "end of the bar," each has it's on unique shape. Hand-hammered, these 22K gold (24K is pure gold) pieces of history are some of the most intriguing and beautiful coins ever minted. And because each coin was minted by hand, they are one of a kind. Unlike a machine minted coin, it is impossible for anyone else to possess a coin exactly like yours!

Note from Robert: STUNNING! Outstanding condition. It's hard to get any finer quality and detail on a Spanish gold doubloon!
This coin ranks in thee top 3-5% of what's available in the world. It's a two escudo, but it is the width of a 50 cent piece. Sweet "statement" piece.
This coin is truly unique, and rare. Sharp details. Excellent almost full legend on obverse: PHILIPPVS, and visible HISPANIARVM, Latin for "Spain." Most of the time these letters fall of the edge of the planchet and aren't fully visible. "S" mint mark, Gothic "D" assayer's initials and II Roman numerals 2 denomination. Most of thes details aren't usually visible.
We know this coin was struck circa 1568 as assayer Damian was producing 2 escudos of the same shield design at this time.
I like to set these pieces in our luxury width, 18K gold as the coins and jewelry back then were 22K gold (24K is pure gold), and the 18K gold bezel gives this beautiful piece a stunning warm, regal glow and feel.
All of this info will be a part of our detailed, 8 page Certificate of Authenticity that comes with this pendant.
Shield design elements indicates the King’s realm: Castile and Leon; Jerusalem and Navarre; Aragon and Sicily, Granada.
