Atocha is the most famous Spanish galleon in shipwreck history! Mel Fisher spent 16 years searching for her... and every day he would tell his divers: “Today’s the Day!” Years of trials and heartbreak were endured, along with attacks by the State and Federal government, who wanted to claim what Fisher found along the way. At last, one fateful morning in 1985 Fisher and his faithful crew hit the “mother lode...” hundreds of millions in glittering Spanish silver and gold!

Robert's Notes: Fun piece of Atocha treasure. This piece is part of what is referred to as "Atocha Frag Bag" pieces. When Atocha sank, the coin would have fallen free of one of the "chests" and sat on the bottom of the ocean for over 300 years, with no protection for the harsh environment like coins that still stayed attached to the "clumps" or conglomerates of treasure coins, the remains of treasure chests.
This is from one of our friend's "Diver's Division," who is an "Atocha Golden Crew" member. The Golden Crew are the divers that stuck with Mel Fisher through thick and thin and finally "hit the mother-lode" in 1985. He was given a small handful of these along with his very nice division, and recently decided to part with them.
This coin comes with its original Flip Insert with TSI #: 86A-113338 - no Treasure Salvors, Inc Certificates were issued with these coins. That's why we can offer it at the price it is.
