Before the Roman Empire, there was the Roman Republic… where ancient Rome was ruled by the powerful Senate and moneyers were responsible for creating the coins used by the citizens of this rising power.

This silver coin, a Denarius, was minted by moneyer Cn. Planciusin 55 BC in Rome. It pictures the helmeted Diana on the front (obverse). Diana was the goddess of the hunt, the moon, and nature, who could talk to animals. On the back (reverse) is a Cretan goat with a quiver and bow to the left.
