Before the Roman Empire, there was the Roman Republic… where ancient Rome was ruled by the powerful Senate and moneyers were responsible for creating the coins used by the citizens of this rising power.
This silver coin, a Denaruis, was minted in Rome in 75 BC by moneyer L. Farsuleius Mensor. It pictures the Liberty on the front (obverse). On the back (reverse) is a helmeted warrior in a biga (a sporty, two-horse chariot) helping a figure get in (more details on the significance of this image below in April's Notes).

April's Notes: Much more beautiful in hand (photographing these coins is not the easiest task - it is so hard to capture their depth and beauty), this denarius is a rare issue... it is believed that picturing Liberty may be a reference to the law called lex Julia that dated to 90 BC. It was a law granting citizenship to all the peoples of Italy.
