The Legendary Pirate Era 22K Gold 4 Escudo "Doubloon" Coin  Pendant

Please Note: This is an authentic Spanish Gold Escudo Treasure Coin, and you will receive the exact pendant in the photographs and description.

FOR PENDANT SIZE SEE COIN DETAILS BELOW:

When we think of the treasure coins of pirate legend and lore, the first thing that comes to mind is the gold “doubloon.” Doubloons, or Escudos (which means shield in Spanish), are the gold coins to satiate desire. From kings and queens, to merchants, adventurers, and yes, pirates and privateers, the gold Escudos, along with their counter parts, silver “Pieces of 8,” fueled the world  economy for some 300 years.

Next time you read about the great pirates of long ago; Henry Morgan, Edward Teach (Blackbeard), John Rackham (Calico Jack), Mary Read, Anne Bonny and many others, these were the coins that drove their raiding and pillaging of land and sea! Even the great, and often maligned, “pirate hunter” Captain William Kidd used these coins to purchase rum and wine for his crew.

Crudely shaped and hand-hammered, these 22K gold (24K is pure gold) pieces of history are some of the most intriguing and beautiful coins ever minted. And because each coin was minted by hand, they are one of a kind. Unlike a machine minted coin, it is impossible for anyone else to posses a coin exactly like yours!

Your Pirate Era Gold 4 Escudo Doubloon Pendant

    • Coin weight: 13.46
    • Mint: "S" Seville, Spain
    • Rulers: Philip II (1556-1598)
    • Assayer: "D" Melchor Damian

    • Pendant size including bezel: 1 1/4" Across, 1 5/8" Tall - pendant is the width a 50 cent piece

Note from Robert: STUNNING! Deeply struck detail. Almost uncirculated. Beautiful one-of-a-kind specimen. Still has mint luster. This coin ranks in the top 3% of what's available in the world.

Besides this being a stunningly beautiful coin, with a full cross and shield, visible mint mark "S", assayer's initials "D" and "oIIII" denomination on shield side, partial PHILIPPVS (Philip II of Spain) is also visible. Most of the time the legend falls off the edge of the planchet.

In recent years, four escudos have become highly sought after and difficult to acquire.

This coin is so stunning that I created a luxury weight 18K gold bezel for it, that gives it a regal look and feel... and very piratical. I like to use 18K as most of the coins and jewelry from this time period were 22K to 24K (pure) gold.

Shield design elements indicates the King’s realm: Castile and Leon; Jerusalem and Navarre; Aragon and Sicily, Granada.
