Extremely Rare Pirate Era Dated 1607 22K Gold One Escudo - the Legendary Doubloon - 18K Gold Pendant | Artifact #8435

The Legendary Pirate Era 22K Gold 1 Escudo "Doubloon" Coin  18K Gold Pendant

Please Note: This is an authentic Spanish Gold Escudo Treasure Coin, and you will receive the exact pendant in the photographs and description.

FOR PENDANT SIZEE SEE COIN DETAILS BELOW

When we think of the treasure coins of pirate legend and lore, the first thing that comes to mind is the gold “doubloon.” Doubloons, or Escudos (which means shield in Spanish), are the gold coins to satiate desire. From kings and queens, to merchants, adventurers, and yes, pirates and privateers, the gold Escudos, along with their counter parts, silver “Pieces of 8,” fueled the world  economy for some 300 years.

Next time you read about the great pirates of long ago; Henry Morgan, Edward Teach (Blackbeard), John Rackham (Calico Jack), Mary Read, Anne Bonny and many others, these were the coins that drove their raiding and pillaging of land and sea! Even the great, and often maligned, “pirate hunter” Captain William Kidd used these coins to purchase rum and wine for his crew.

This is a very rare, 2 year issue of a 1 escudo 22K gold coin produced at the Segovia, Spain, mint using the recently invented roller mill. this type of "mill" produced some of the first almost perfectly round coins. The other Spanish mints struck the standard, crudely shaped and hand-hammered cob coins. The roller mill preceded the later screw press.

Still, each one of these coins was minted by hand, and are one of a kind. Unlike a modern, machine minted coin, it is impossible for anyone else to posses a coin exactly like yours!

Note from Robert: This is one of the most amazing Spanish doubloons I have ever had the pleasure to work with. It is virtually uncirculated. It was found buried in Spain a few years ago and has been in our private collection until now.

You can't get a more perfect gold coin.

Stunning piece with beautiful cross and Philip III shield. I left a tiny bit of verdigris in the crevice of the shield as a testament to its being buried for hundreds of years.

HISPANIARVM REX in Latin means King of Spain, with PHILIP III D.G. on the obverse. Dei Gracia in Latin means By the Grace of God, King of Spain.

We like to set these pieces in our luxury weight, 18K gold as the coins and jewelry back then were 22K gold (24K is pure gold), and the 18K gold bezel gives this beautiful piece a stunning warm, regal glow.

Shield design elements indicates the King’s realm: Castile and Leon; Jerusalem and Navarre; Aragon and Sicily, Granada.
