April's Notes: Julia Domna is a compelling and fascinating figure who, unlike many of her contemporaries, embraced her role as Empress with the application of her intelligence, wit and savvy political instincts. To this day, she stands as one of the most powerful women of the Roman Empire.

This Denarius features a beautifully detailed and centered bust of Julia, along with a reverse featuring Diana. Diana is the legendary goddess of the hunt, the moon, and nature, who could talk to animals. Here she is pictured carrying a torch.
