Before the Roman Empire, there was the Roman Republic… where ancient Rome was ruled by the powerful Senate and moneyers were responsible for creating the coins used by the citizens of this rising power.

This silver coin, a Denarius, was minted by moneyer Q. Titius in 90 BC in Rome. It pictures the legendary winged horse - Pegasus on the front (obverse). Pegasus was the messenger of the Muse... carrying creative inspiration from the muse to mortals. On the back (reverse) is the portrait of Mutinus Titinus wearing winged diadem.
