Rimac River "Good Luck" Spanish 1/2 Reale "Piece of Eight" Sterling Silver with Emerald Earrings | Artifact #3039

For Luck... for Love... for Prosperity and Protection: our Rimac River Piece of Eight Pendants are a symbol of hope to this day

Please Note: This is an authentic Spanish Reale Piece of Eight Treasure Coin, and you will receive the exact pendant in the photographs and description.

FOR PENDANT SIZE SEE COIN DETAILS BELOW

For hundreds of years, small silver “Pieces of Eight” have been found in the banks and shallow waters of the Rimac River in the historic district of Lima, Peru… not too far from the colonial Santa Rosa church. Perhaps thrown from the nearby bridge, what is known is that for well over a century, courting couples would toss silver coins into the river with a wish for a happy, prosperous marriage.

Sailors, too, were said to make an offering of a Piece of Eight for safe passage on their next voyage.

Our neighbor, a native of Lima, Peru, says that the once muddy banks of the river were the perfect place for the small silver Reales to become quickly buried and protected. Discovered decades ago, our Rimac River treasures continue their journey – bringing their wish for luck and prosperity to a new generation.

Robert's Notes: Stunning, deeply struck cross, partial kings' monogram.

Most Rimac River coins have a certain amount of "sea wear" from being in the water and washing around in the sand and dirt on the bottom of the river. These two are in very rare and stunning condition as they woould have sunk down to the hard-pan and not been damaged.

The joy of this type of Real is the depth and detail of the strike. Thick and strongly angled, each detail is highlighted in the gleam of silver. This coin was hardly  circulated before they were cast into the river.

The Shinning Silver "Piece of Eight" of Pirate Legend... Lost Treasure for the Treasure Hunter in All of Us!

When we think of the treasure coins of pirate lore, the silver Spanish colonial coins of Central and South America immediately come to mind. Next time you read about the great pirates of long ago, Henry Morgan, Edward Teach (Blackbeard), John Rackham (Calico Jack), Mary Read, Anne Bonny and many others, these were the coins that drove their raiding and pillaging of land and sea! Even the great, and often maligned, “pirate hunter” Captain William Kidd used these coins to purchase rum and wine for his crew.

Crudely shaped and hand-hammered, these silver pieces of history are some of the most intriguing and beautiful coins ever minted. And because each coin was minted by hand, they are one of a kind. Unlike a machine minted coin, it is impossible for anyone else to posses a coin exactly like yours!
