Authentic Byzantine Crosses — Worn Close to the Heart: 800–1200 AD

For the medieval people of Byzantium, a Cross was far more than adornment — it was a companion, a protector, and a constant reminder of Christ’s presence. Hand-cast in bronze and sometimes silver between the 9th and 12th centuries, these devotional Crosses were worn by Crusaders, pilgrims, monks, merchants, and everyday believers alike.

Each Cross in this collection survives exactly as it was made, untouched except for careful conservation in our own conservation lab. Some bear the Five Wounds of Christ, others take the rare Maltese form, and some end in sculpted ball or double-ball finials unique to the artisan who shaped them. These are intimate artifacts, preserved with integrity, now ready to be worn and cherished once more by their next guardian.
