Atocha is the most famous Spanish galleon in shipwreck history! Mel Fisher spent 16 years searching for her... and every day he would tell his divers: “Today’s the Day!”  Years of trials and heartbreak were endured, along with attacks by the State and Federal government, who wanted to claim what Fisher found along the way.  At last, one fateful morning in 1985 he hit the “mother load...” millions upon millions in glittering Spanish silver and gold!

Robert's Notes: Rare, hand signed Treasure Salvors, Inc. Certificate issued on January 28, 1976 and personally signed by Mel fisher, Dolores "Deo" Fisher, R. Duncan Mathewson, Eugene Lyon and Austin Fowles. 

This is a rare, pre-mother-load coin and Certificate of Authenticity. 

It is a really cool piece and very interesting provenance. The coin # 3126 indicates this coin's discovery pre-dates when Mel and his crew "hit the mother-load" in 1985.

It is from the 1975 Florida State Division when Florida had forced Fisher to turn over 25% of what they found. Fisher fought for 8 years in court and won in 1982 to keep all of the treasure he and his crew discovered. 

For us, it is a really cool piece of treasure hunter memorabilia. The coin was recovered from what came to be known as "The Bank of Spain" which was a small deposit of treasure that the Atocha dropped when she first hit the Marquesas Keys before being pushed into deeper water by a second storm a few months later. In 1985, Fisher and his team then discovered the deeper section, knowns as “The Main Pile” or “The Mother Load.”
