Roman Republic Silver Denarius circa 160 BC Necklace with Roma & Diana

Please Note: This is an authentic Ancient Roman Treasure Coin, and you will receive the exact pendant in the photographs and description.

Before the Roman Empire, there was the Roman Republic… where ancient Rome was ruled by the powerful Senate and moneyers were responsible for creating the coins used by the citizens of this rising power.

This silver coin, a Denaruis, was minted by moneyer Furius Purpurio between 160 – 150 BC. It pictures the helmeted Roma on the front (obverse). Roma was the personification – the representation of the city of Rome where this coin was minted. On the back (reverse) is Diana, goddess of the hunt, driving a biga (a sporty two-horse chariot) with a murex shell above the horses. Some say that because the murex gives the purple dye the Romans loved, that the shell was a play on words for the moneyers name “Pupurio.”

Our ancient coin pendants are a favorite of history fans, students, travel buffs and teachers… and anyone with a love of the past. Our Roman jewelry is designed to be worn by men or women will accommodate both large and small chain and leather necklaces.
