Mel Fisher's Atocha 1622 8 Reale Shipwreck Coin "Piece of Eight" 14K Gold and Sterling Necklace | Artifact #3570

Size Guide

In the world of shipwreck treasure coins, Mel Fisher's Atocha reigns supreme!

Atocha is the most famous Spanish galleon in shipwreck history! Mel Fisher spent 16 years searching for her... and every day he would tell his divers: “Today’s the Day!”  Years of trials and heartbreak were endured, along with attacks by the State and Federal governments, who wanted to claim what Fisher found along the way.  At last, one fateful morning in 1985 he hit the “mother load...” millions upon millions of dollars worth of glittering Spanish silver and gold! Fisher's discovery and other salvor's Spanish galleon discoveries, research and archaeology before him are responsible for most of what we now know about the Spanish galleon fleets, and the Spanish Main.

Note from Robert: This is part of what we call the "Old Timer's Collection." These coins are usually part of the old-time divers divisions of coins that were recovered before Mel and his crew hit the Mother Load in 1985. Their Mel Fisher Treasure Salvors certificate had gotten damaged or misplaced along the way. We certify these coins from Atocha (which are often some of the first discovered) and price them at the same price as our other shipwreck coins - a great value for a genuine Atocha treasure. And this one has a wonderful shape, nice cross and a beautiful sea wear that has lots of eye appeal.
