Highly decorated and classically medieval Cross Pattee

This medieval cross is a museum recreation of an authentic 12th century cross pattee pendant that was hand-cast in bronze and worn by a fellow believer over 900 years ago. It was discovered by metal detector in England.

The middle ages were a time of great advancement in the decorative arts, and stylized crosses became a significant art from during this time. Carved molds of all varieties were crafted to create crosses from delicate to epic.

This cross has the flared ends of a cross pattee - a style of cross popular in medieval heraldry. The cross pattee was often seem on banners and flags flown by knights and noble families. What sets this cross apart is the delicate scrolled design on each of the arms and at the center. The design reflects the light, accentuating the pattern now, as it did hundreds of years ago.
