ALL ABOUT CANNON BEACH TREASURE COMPANY
$ 350.00 USD Size Guide
King James I of England, and VI of Scotland ruled at an extraordinary time. The founder of the Stuart dynasty, upon the death of Queen Elizabeth I, the King of the Scots found himself ruling a now "united" kingdom of Scotland and England
But of course, while some of us may be a bit "fuzzy" on the details of James' tumultuous reign, he is a household name for many as the commissioner of the King James version of the Holy Bible - the standard bible for Christians the world over to this day.
James was the only son of Mary, Queen of Scots, and her second husband, Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley. Both Mary and Darnley were great-grandchildren of Henry VII of England through Margaret Tudor, the older sister of Henry VIII. These coins were minted throughout James' reign, and prominent feature the symbols of both Scotland and England.
This coin comes with 7 pages of detailed documentation. See below for more details.
Robert's Notes: Considering its age, this has a beautiful Thistle and Rose. It looks like a little bit of silver might have been clipped off of it. This coin was minted one year into the translation and writing of the King James Version of the Bible. Shakespeare was 41 years old.
Due to "clipping," master of the Royal Mint, Sir. Issac Newton, ordered hand-hammered coins like this one to be recalled, melted, and re-minted using a new screw press that put edges on the coins, similar to the edges on the coins in your pocket. Had this coin not been lost before 1696, we would not be able to enjoy it now.
Of Special Note: This coin comes from a collection 25 years in the making by a metal detector friend of ours in England named Mike. For a quarter century, he has hunted the land around York and other areas for lost treasures. Countless thousands of hours have gone into bring this coin to you.
One of our favorite shows is "Detectorists" on Netflix and Amazon. Mike's wife said before he could buy the latest, greatest metal detector, he must sell some of his collection.
