Roman Republic Silver Denarius 120 BC Pendant with Janus, the God of Beginnings, Change & Endings

Please Note: This is an authentic Ancient Roman Treasure Coin, and you will receive the exact pendant in the photographs and description.

Of Special Note: This rare ancient Roman Denarius pictures Janus. The god Janus held a unique position in ancient Roman myth - it is he who presided over change - he was the master of all beginnings, transitions and endings - the master of time. He is depicted with two faces: he looks to the future with the widsom gained from the past. Janus sparks action and the change that comes with it. For anyone on a journey, Janus can be an inspired companion.

Before the Roman Empire, there was the Roman Republic… where ancient Rome was ruled by the powerful Senate and moneyers were responsible for creating the coins used by the citizens of this rising power.

This silver coin, a Denaruis, was minted by moneyer M. Furius L. f. Philus in 120 BC. It pictures the Janus on the front (obverse). Janus is the god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, change, passages and endings. He looks to the future with the wisdom gained from the past. On the back (reverse) is Roma, the personification of the city of Rome, holding wreath and scepter

Our ancient coin pendants are a favorite of history fans, students, travel buffs and teachers… and anyone with a love of the past. Our Roman jewelry is designed to be worn by men or women will accommodate both large and small chain and leather necklaces.

April's Notes: Perhaps my favorite of all the Ancient Roman Republic issues, the famed Janus coin stands as one of the most legendary coins of all time. Here, the striking portraits appear with extraordinary detail, and the legend is crisp and perfectly centered - an amazing example of the coin minters art. An added feature of this coin is its orientation. While coin minters in Ancient Rome didn't care if the top of one side was also the top on the other (what we now call "Medallic Orientation") this coins 12 o'clock is the same on both sides - so you can wear it either side out.

Each ancient Roman coin was hand-struck by three people, and at the height of the Roman empire, coins were minted throughout the sprawling territories – even in military camps where coins were minted to pay soldiers. Lost or purposely hoarded, this ancient Roman Coin was discovered by metal detector and professionally conserved for a lifetime of enjoyment.
