Roman Republic Silver Denarius Circa 199 BC Pendant with Roma & the Gemini Twins

Please Note: This is an authentic Ancient Roman Treasure Coin, and you will receive the exact pendant in the photographs and description.

Before the Roman Empire, there was the Roman Republic… where ancient Rome was ruled by the powerful Senate and moneyers were responsible for creating the coins used by the citizens of this rising power.

This silver coin, a Denaruis, was minted in Rome between 199 - 170 BC by an anonymous moneyer. It pictures the helmeted Roma on the front (obverse). Roma was the personification – the representation - of the city of Rome. On the back (reverse) are the Dioscuri, or Gemini Twins, the patrons of sailors and horsemanship, astride their horses, galloping, with ROMA below.

Our ancient coin pendants are a favorite of history fans, students, travel buffs and teachers… and anyone with a love of the past. Our Roman jewelry is designed to be worn by men or women will accommodate both large and small chain and leather necklaces.

April's Notes: The Dioscuri issues are some of my favorites - the mischievous, charming twins astride their beloved horses. In this particularly rare issue they are clearly seen above the ROMA legend. Perhaps best of all, it is what we call almost "zero die axis." When these were struck, the minters didn't care if the top of one side of the coin was also the top on the other side - what we call "Medallic Orientation." This coin is one of the rare ones you can wear it either side out. This coin is a classic example of early Roman coinage. It was passed through countless hands - Roman soldiers and citizens whose lives live on through their coins. Note the “Banker’s Marks” circled in red. These marks were made by bankers or merchants who were testing to see if the coin was counterfeit - just copper, with a thin silver wash. They took a small tool and hammered it into the coin to see if the metal below the surface was also silver. It was. Just another day in the Roman Republic!

(Please note: this information and much more will appear on your customized Certificate of Authenticity.)

Each ancient Roman coin was hand-struck by three people, and at the height of the Roman empire, coins were minted throughout the sprawling territories – even in military camps where coins were minted to pay soldiers. Lost or purposely hoarded, this ancient Roman Coin was discovered by metal detector and professionally conserved for a lifetime of enjoyment.
