Roman Republic Silver Denarius 85 BC Necklace with Apollo & Victory

Please Note: This is an authentic Ancient Roman Treasure Coin, and you will receive the exact pendant in the photographs and description.

Before the Roman Empire, there was the Roman Republic… where ancient Rome was ruled by the powerful Senate and moneyers were responsible for creating the coins used by the citizens of this rising power.

This silver coin, a Denaruis, was minted by moneyer L. Julius Bursio in 85 BC. It pictures the image of a male deity with aspects of Apollo (the Laurel Wreath), Mercury (the Wings) and Neptune (the Trident) on the front (obverse). (See April's notes below.) On the back (reverse) is Victory, the goddess of victory in battle and over death, driving a quadriga.

Our ancient coin pendants are a favorite of history fans, students, travel buffs and teachers… and anyone with a love of the past. Our Roman jewelry is designed to be worn by men or women will accommodate both large and small chain and leather necklaces.

April's Notes: This coin is a fascinating glimpse into life in the ancient Roman Republic. The image on the obverse is a composite of several deities... Apollo, the god of music and dance, truth and prophecy, healing and light; Mercury, the messenger of all other gods, and the god of wealth, good fortune and commerce; and Neptune, the god of fresh water and the sea. Some believe that this image may also be Genius, the divine nature of each person, present in every person - like a guardian angel, genius safeguards each person from birth to death. No matter what the deity, our Moneyer, L. Julius Bursio seems to have covered all the bases... and given the world a wonderful insight into the importance of gods and goddesses in every day Roman life. Perhaps best of all, while coin minters in Ancient Rome didn't care if the top of one side was also the top on the other (what we now call "Medallic Orientation") this coins 12 o'clock is the same on both sides - so you can wear it either side out.

Each ancient Roman coin was hand-struck by three people, and at the height of the Roman empire, coins were minted throughout the sprawling territories – even in military camps where coins were minted to pay soldiers. Lost or purposely hoarded, this ancient Roman Coin was discovered by metal detector and professionally conserved for a lifetime of enjoyment.
