Less than one in 3,000 - the Knobbed Celtic Bronze Ring...
Celtic Ring Money is extremely rare, and we are the world's leading source of these ancient treasures. When we are able to acquire the rare knobbed ring, it is thrilling.
Celtic bronze ring money dates from 800 to 50 BC, when these sturdy bronze rings were traded as currency among the Celtic tribes of Northeastern Europe, and later, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
While they many not look like money, these bronze rings were used as currency by Celtic tribes and were worn on clothing or tied together with leather or string. Often referred to as “ring-money,” this type of Celtic artifact is rare. These artifacts were hand-made by Celtic craftsmen over 2,000 years ago.
Anthropologists theorize that reverence for nature may be at the heart of the rare, unusually-shaped examples of Celtic Ring Money Like this knobbed ring. Three-pronged propellers, three fused rings, and knobbed circles with three for four knobs or pairs of raised bumps have all been found, and may have been used for ceremonial purposes or as talismans with spiritual significance.
