1715 Fleet Shipwreck 1/2 Reale “Piece of Eight” in 18K Gold With Original Mel Fisher Signed Certificate of Authenticity

Please Note: This is an authentic 1715 Fleet Shipwreck Treasure Coin, and you will receive the exact pendant in the photographs and description.

One of the most famed treasure fleets of all time, the 1715 Spanish Treasure Fleet yields some of the most stunning examples of early 1700's silver Spanish "cob" shipwreck treasure coins.

Crudely minted cob coins - short for cabo de barra, or "from the end of the bar," each has it's own unique shape - and combined with the sea wear and stunning patinas, each is a small work of art!

And this cob is something extra-special! Recovered when Mel Fisher, of Atocha fame, owned the lease on the 1715 Fleet, this coin comes with a hand-signed certificate signed by Mel himself!

Note from Robert: This is one of the most stunning quality, full dated and rare Potosi, Upper Peru (Bolivia), mint coins that I have ever seen come off of the 1715 Fleet. You just don't see this quality silver coin recovered from The Fleet these days. It was recovered in the 1970s, and also comes with its original  Certificate of Authenticity personally hand-signed by Mel Fisher himself, during the "Glory Days of the 1715 Fleet." (SEE VIDEO BELOW ABOUT THIS CERTIFICATE) During this time, part of his crew was searching for the Atocha off Key West (they discovered it in 1985). That is why I bezeled it in 18kt gold, giving it a regal look and feel, fit for a king or queen... or pirate!

Most of the coins recovered from "The Fleet" were minted in Mexico City and were the large eight reales. In comparison, Potosi, mint coins are extremely rare, especially in this high quality condition. This one has a stunning, almost perfectly centered cross, full 3 digit date "706" (they didn't use all four digits due to the size of the coin). Who wouldn't want a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Mel himself! True Treasure Hunter memorabilia! It also comes with our detailed, multi-page Certificate of Authenticity, a copy of Coins of the Lost Galleons and all the other goodies!

Shipwreck 1/2 reales like this one are rare as it is - these small coins are at the mercy of the ocean unless they are protected either in a conglomerate ("clump") of coins that was once a treasure chest, or attached to an "EO" (Encrusted Object usually containing iron objects that were part of the ship's fittings, and act as a sacrificial metal, protecting the coin from the harsh salt and heavy wave action environment).
